Pixel Scrapper January 2018 Blog Train - Treasured

Happy New Year!!  I have had such a rough ending to 2017, I'm actually looking forward to a new beginning.  I debated on whether I was going to mention this on the blog but since it has been "my life" since December 12th...I really don't have much else to chat about.

Anyway, we have 2 dogs, a chocolate lab named Guinness and a Beagle named Bella.  We took Guinness to the vet on the 12th for a scheduled tumor removal from his hip.  Well...little Miss Bella doesn't like her big bro leaving her home alone.  She managed to squeeze herself  out of the gate in the backyard to go look for her brother.  I get a call around 1:00 in the afternoon from the microchip company letting me know Bella has been picked up and taken to animal services ("dog pound").  So I call animal services and find out that she is in fact in their "custody".  The lady put me on hold for a few minutes and came back to inform me that Bella may have been hit by a car!  My heart sunk.  I had no idea what her condition was until I got there....and it was bad....real bad.  I cried as I drove her to the vet's office knowing I was going to have to put her down.  She was in so much pain.

After multiple x-rays and a thorough exam from the vet...it was amazing she had no broken bones, her lungs were clear and they could not detect any internal bleeding.  They kept her for the next 3 days/nights to keep her on a heavy dose of pain/anti-inflammatory IV drip to ease the swelling that was causing her so much pain.  Seeing her in so much pain, I know the vet could see that I was struggling with this and wanted me to give her a chance.  If this doesn't help her, then we would discuss the option of euthanasia.  She is 14 years old and I didn't want her to be in so much pain but I agreed.  She had no reflex in her left leg at all so the likelihood that she would ever be able to walk on it was slim.

The first few nights home were pretty rough.  We didn't get much sleep because she would cry and yelp.  After the days went by she got better and better.  She is now using both of her back legs to get around.  She is still very unsteady but she is doing it.  She goes in and out of the doggy door by herself and has managed to find that one position to stand in so she can do her business outside and not fall over.  She is one tough pup!  I am also happy to report that the tumor removed from Guinness was not cancerous.

I hope I didn't put anyone to sleep...I tend to be long winded because I have to tell the whole story.  Here is my contribution to this months blog train...Treasured.  Enjoy.
